Focus T-25 – Day 3

Even though I went to bed early on Tuesday night, and got a good 8 hours of sleep, Wednesday was maybe the hardest day for me to get out of bed. Good news though, I GOT UP! I got my workout clothes on, which I laid out the night before, and pressed play. I was happy I did. ONLY 25 MINUTES!

Focus T25 Day 3

As you can tell I had quite the workout – Total Body Circuit – that it was my friends, that it was. There are areas where I have always been pretty strong, push ups are one of them. I’ve also been pretty good at holding a plank. However, when you start alternating arms and moving from left to right, it add a whole new element.

I am feeling stronger every day, and mentally finding zen. Little things that would have bothered me a couple of months ago, now don’t. With a clearer head I stop, think about what happened and if I can make light of a situation or laugh at it, I do. Re-learning to only take life seriously when necessary. 🙂

Yesterday was a good clean eating day until the grilled cheese sandwich I devoured last night. Breakfast – Bowl of fruit with homemade gluten-free bread & peanut butter. Snack – Greenberry Shakeology with cranberries and peaches. Lunch – Quinoa patties on top of spinach. PM Snack (which I didn’t have until 5 p.m.) – Veggie and hummus. Late dinner – Grilled cheese sandwich.

Clean eating post reset day 3

Because yesterday was so busy I wasn’t really thinking about when I needed to eat, so by the time I was hungry again in the afternoon it was almost time for dinner. The veggies would have held me over for the night, but I gave into my desire for the grilled cheese sandwich later on in the evening. It’s all good. Another day to eat better.

A fun new adventure I took part in last night was a glass blowing class. My friend Jamie found a Gropoun for it, and we decided to check it out. It was SO much fun!!! We each made a little something – Jamie made an ornament and I made a little vase. The class is a little on the pricy side, but it makes sense why. They have these huge machines that must use a lot of energy. Plus, the cost of materials might be a little expensive too. Either way, it was 100% worth it, and I’d do it again not at the discounted price.

Picking up my piece tomorrow, so I’ll share a picture with you when I have it.

Question: What’s something new you’ve tried recently?

Day 3 A Little Rocky

I will be the first to admit that I don’t always have perfect eating days. Sometimes I’ll have a weeks worth of good eating and then a day or two of not so good eating. It all depends on what is happening in my life, and how prepared I am (even if I’m fully prepared things come up). Having said all that, I do wake up every day with the intention to eat healthy. Yesterday was one of those days that started good, but had a bump or two in the road.

Tuesday night I prepared for my Wednesday morning workout. I set my alarm, put out E&E, and a NoGii bar (pre-work snack). Having everything laid out the night before helps me in the morning. It’s nice to roll out of the bed and have everything ready to go and set up.

Morning Pre-workout Ritual

Yesterday’s workout was ChaLEAN Extreme Burn Circuit 3. I LOVE this program and the resistance training. I always feel stronger after a workout, and know I put my best foot forward when I’m shaking after

Morning Workout

After my workout I was ready for the day. I was focused and determined to tackle the challenges of the day. I knew proper fueling would do the trick. So, for breakfast I had 2 eggs with 1/4 cup steel oats and 1/8 cup of cheddar cheese

My morning snack was the new and improved Greenberry Shakeology with frozen strawberries and frozen blueberries. It was tasty. [Sorry no photo]

I was right on track and the day was coming along nicely. Then they brought pizza out from the back. Y’ALL I CAN’T RESIST PIZZA! It is a weakness of mine. For years I didn’t eat pizza because I couldn’t find a gluten free pizza that was tasty, and worth the calories. Fortunately I work for a company that produces an amazing gluten free pizza crust. Unlucky for me we have to test it out. 🙂 Okay, it’s not unlucky; I love it! There is no filter on this picture; how yummy!?!?

Finished off my day at the office and enjoyed an afternoon snack of a small grapefruit [not pictured], mixed fresh fruit and cottage cheese.

Afternoon Snack

Last night was trivia night. I knew since I splurged earlier in the day that I would be good and get a salad for dinner. I also figured a salad would be safer; the last time I ate at Pluckers (I had wings) my stomach was upset. Well unfortunately the chicken salad I had with grilled chicken, shredded parmesan cheese, corn, black beans and a balsamic apple cider vinaigrette on the side did NOT sit well.

I’m guessing I’ll have to eat before I go next time. It’s okay, I prefer the great company and trivia game.

The highlight of my day was a card that I got in the mail from my dear friend Emily. It brightened up my day. I’m so lucky to have her in my life. Can’t wait for her and the rest of the RI crew to come visit me in TX.

Question: Have you ever had a bad day of eating? What did you do to make it better?

What I Ate Wednesday

Happy Thursday y’all! Hope everyone had a wonderful Wednesday. We’re so close to the weekend; we can do this!

Wednesday was overall a pretty great day. I got up in the morning stretched and lifted some weights with these guys:

I love my free weights and still am so glad that I made the investment. Once I’m able to get back full force, I plan on doing ChaLEAN Extreme again. This is a great Beachbody program because there is cardio and strength training. This is a program that taught me to lift heavy, the importance of strength training, and how to eat well.

Needless to say the mini workout was a great way to start the day. I kept up with the day by clean eating. Here’s the breakdown of what I ate Wednesday:

Breakfast: 2 sunny side up eggs, 2 pieces of turkey bacon and 1 piece of gluten free toast. So simple, easy to make, and keeps be feeling full

Morning snack: I was still pretty full from lunch, but knew I needed to eat something. So I enjoyed a delicious grapefruit, which I haven’t had one in SO long and it was SO good

Morning Snack

Lunch: Shakeology. This is really the best part of my day. I always feel better after I drink it and my energy level completely changes. Lately I’ve been doing Chocolate Shakeology, ground flaxseed, almond milk, and cinnamon. Surprisingly this kept me full and satisfied.

Afternoon snack: Another fruit that I haven’t had a lot of is kiwi. It was so yummy. I paired it with a Larabar. For the record, this really tasted like an Apple pie.Kiwi Afternoon snack

Dinner: Last night I made dinner for the boy and me. I was excited about this meal. I made a beef roast with a hot tomato, parsley & garlic sauce, cauliflower and potato mash and broccolini. I must say it was pretty tasty (confession: this is the picture I took this morning of the leftovers I’m enjoying for lunch today. I swear it looked just like this last night :-))

All in all it was a good, clean eating day. The Larabar might not have been great, but it was ok. Looking forward to today’s clean eats!

Question: What’s your favorite dish that you make?

I workout!

And now I have “Sexy and I Know” by LMFAO stuck in my head 🙂

Confession: I was cleared to workout last week by my physical therapist (Yay!). I’ve been itching to workout for 5-6 weeks now (since the doctor told me no). Since I was given permission, I was having a hard time finding the motivation. I was told that I could try running (short runs), ride the recumbent bike and lift (as long as my back is supported). I put it out there to my accountability group that I’m a part of and the group that I run. It’s amazing what that did for me. Admitting this got me energized. I wasn’t going to workout until this morning, but yesterday I got home and hit the apartment gym.

I did a 20 minute interval run on the treadmill. Pushed myself just enough that I got a great sweat on, but not too much so that I don’t start having pain. This morning I’m happy to report I feel great!

Yesterday I also started the day off with a yummy breakfast of 2 sunny side up eggs, 2 pieces of turkey bacon and 1 piece of gluten free toast

I was so full that I wasn’t hungry until lunch. I didn’t intentionally not have my morning snack, I like to eat every 3 hours to keep my metabolism going, but I wasn’t hungry so I didn’t eat.

Some of my go to snacks lately have been Greek yogurt with fruit (see below), 100 calorie pack of almonds and apples. They’re very easy on the go snacks; so simple, easy and they leave me satisfied and full.

Last night was movie date night. The boy picked Pacific Rim. Some of his buddy’s went and saw it the night before and said it was good. I had zero interest in seeing it, but I was more than happy to go anyways.

The movie wasn’t half bad. I think what really made the experience was seeing it in IMAX 3D. I was so intrigued by the filming of the movie that I was only semi paying attention to the plot of the movie. Seriously, if you seen it you’ll understand. I would have been interested in seeing the set of this movie and seeing what technology did for the movie.

I’ve seen more movies in the last week and a half than I think I’ve seen in 5 years – Iron Man 3, Despicable Me 2, Just Got With It, Grown Ups, This is 40, Moneyball, and Pacific Rim. Oh boy!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Tuesday!

Question: What’s the last movie you saw?

Memorial Day Weekend

Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend! I’m grateful to those who have served, are serving and will serve. I’m also grateful to the families who also make sacrifices every day so their loved ones can protect our freedoms. Special shout out to a friend who is currently deployed! Hoping for your safe return Robert!

Memorial Day

I had such a good weekend with new friends and new adventures in Austin. Friday night I went to Top Golf, which just opened a couple weeks ago. This place is SO cool! I’ve only golfed once in my life, and have never been to a driving range. A few of us decided to try golfing. Each ball has a chip in it and when you hit one of the targets you get points designated to that slot. I didn’t do well, but I didn’t do terrible either. Definitely a place I’d go to again!

Top Golf

After Top Golf, I went out to a couple bars downtown. My favorite bar of the night was the one that had skeeball. My friend and I played well over 10 games and I won every single time. 🙂 (Side note: I also played skeeball on Sunday and did NOT do as well. Haha)

Skee ball

Saturday brought more rain, which Austin is in a drought so we need the rain. However, I was hoping for some sunshine so I could sit by the pool. Since it was raining my friend and I decided to go to the Capitol instead of a hike. It’s a pretty cool place, and would make for some great pictures. I took this one of the dome that is 280+ feet from the floor; the star measures 8 feet from point to point. How crazy is that?!

Sunday since the sun decided to come out I went for a hike with another friend, and then went out to a few bars with a different friend. It had been a long day since I randomly woke up at 6:15 a.m. No reason either! Who does that when they can sleep in? Haha.

Monday brought some spring cleaning, organizing (although my closet could use some love), and an afternoon by the pool. All-in-all I would said I had a solid 3-day weekend. I even got some great workouts in:

Monday workout Workout 1 Workout 2

Tomorrow is my last day of Insanity Asylum 1. Looking forward to taking the fit test on Thursday to see how much I’ve improved (here’s hoping my back cooperates!).

Question: How was your memorial day weekend?

Thursday = random facts

Typically Wednesday is my random facts day, but this week it is Thursday. I have one very good reasons: Wednesday wasn’t eventful. Haha! I did go to trivia again, which was of course so much fun! Such a great group of people. I ate the same things as Tuesday; just easier since things have been a little crazy.

Wednesday was supposed to be my rest day, but I decided to lift and stretch. I didn’t get up and workout, and quite honestly my day felt off until I did finally workout last night. Last night I went with ChaLEAN Extreme Push Circuit 2. Chalene stress the importance of challenge yourself, lifting heavy, and “failing” by the last rep. I couldn’t agree more. Muscle burns fat, and women won’t get bulky like men. So, lift heavy. Don’t be scared! You continue to burn calories after your workout when you lift, so lift!

I was sweating after this workout and my monthly wall and v sit challenge. I’m so glad I got a workout in; I think I slept better last night because of it.

CLX Push Circuit 2 Workout

Here are some random fact for you this Thursday:

  • I played field hockey for seven years growing up.
  • My biggest food weaknesses are dark chocolate, peanut butter (or almond butter) and fro-yo.
  • I don’t like when someone cracks their knuckles; it creeps me out.
  • I like fresh tuna, but not tuna in a can.
  • I haven’t had fro-yo in 11 days.
  • One of my favorite movies is “The Sound of Music.” I remembering watching it with my grandpa when I was a kid.
  • Whey protein will not make you gain weight; I thought it did.

Question: Who else is ready for the three-day weekend?

Makes me wanna jump, jump

Yesterday was one of those days where I needed an extra day to rest. My plan to relax all weekend didn’t exactly happen. However, it was a good weekend so I can’t really complain.

As tired as I was, I got up and worked out (Insanity Asylum 1 – Plyo). I definitely don’t regret it because it made my day that much better. However, I couldn’t move for the rest of the day (and I don’t mean in a good workout kind of way).

I’ve been having back problems since the end of February. I took two weeks off at one point to try and recover, and eased back into my workouts. Unfortunately, it didn’t help. Last Friday I gave in and went and saw a doctor. She gave me something to take for 6-days, and told me if that doesn’t help I need to get an MRI. UGH! I’m not a go to the doctor, take medicine kind of person unless I REALLY have to. Well, I guess I’m at my breaking point because I can’t not workout so I need to figure out this whole back thing.

My day just doesn’t feel right if I don’t get some type of workout in; even if that workout is stretching. So, over the last couple months I have been modifying certain moves (squats, twists, etc.) and being extra careful. My back feels good 90-95% of my workout, which is great. The times I feel the most pain is when I go to stand up after sitting, getting up in the morning (I literally rolled out of bed today), and when I sit. If this was just a pulled muscle wouldn’t it be better by now? I want it to only be a pulled muscle and for it to go away; it’s cramping my style 🙂

Anyways, yesterday’s workout was great. I wore my sparkle to help me get through my workout.

Workout Done

Plyometrics is jump training, whether it straight up in the air or you’re going side to side. It’s not an easy workout, but it’s not a bad workout either. I was super excited when I saw this shot yesterday; look how high I jumped!

Makes you wanna jump jump

Nothing like challenging yourself at 5 a.m. to jump over a 4-5 ft. ladder…

Workout 1

This purple band is NOT friendly, but it’s great for the legs. 🙂

Workout 2

I like to call these star jumps. They’re kind of fun.

Workout 3

The only picture I took yesterday of what I ate was breakfast – blueberry protein pancakes! Good post workout meal.

Blueberry pancakes

I also enjoyed Shakeology for a morning snack, a salad for lunch, veggies with hummus for an afternoon snack and Verts (a local Austin-based chain) veggies bowl for dinner. All in all it was a great Monday! I’m ready for the rest of the week!
